I am new to npp. What do you mean two panels? And, step by step, how do you
set it up? Please. Thanks.

Thanks for the info, Jens. I didn't see the PHP debugger plugin in the plugin
list at http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/download.php. Please tell me
where to find the plugin and I will see what I can do about getting it extended
to debug perl as well. Thanks again - Peter

Thanks for the two suggestions...but neither one seems capable
of deleting a column of numerical data. I don't understand the
reference to 'column mode', and in the second selection, I drag
to include the width of the column and it only blanks half of
that width. Data looks like this, except many columns, and I want
to keep all except the whole second column (4.763 16.854 etc.):

  1.000 4.763 5.234 10.776 1.543
  2.000 16.854 1.654 7.246 11.487
         etcetera

One thing I forgot to mention is that I also use a VPN connection to access

I have just got round to trying Notepad++ and am having a problem in selecting
the default I want to use.

I am using the Ruby Blue theme and want to use DejaVu Sans Mono as my font.
I seem to only be able to select DejaVu Sans Mono Bold in the Styler
Configurator
for the Global Style.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Steve

I have just got round to trying Notepad++ and am having a problem in auto
detecting
UTF-8 files with no BOM. Other text editors are detecting the file
automatically.

but was fixed in a previous version. Is there still a problem in this area?

Cheers,

Steve

Alt-click&drag marks the block (column mode - popular in many editors) you want
to do anything with.

In your case:
  1. pick the upper/left hand corner of the block,
  2. press Alt key, click that upper/left hand corner,
  3. drag your mouse to the lower/right hand corner of your block,
  4. press Delete key to remove those columns.

Using the same technique, you can replace step 4 with a key press to fill those
columns with the same letter/symbol/numeric.

If you only blank half the width, there is only one thing coming to mind - the
column you are working on include double-width characters. I did some experiment
using the two rows you provided, I could not duplicate your described "blanks
half of that width". I am sorry I can't help you resolve this issue.

Best Regards

Hi!

I am using XML for scripts and comments are highlighted really nicely..
However in the same scriptfiles I can comment in C++ style /* and //
I would want those to also get user specific colours, atleast //.
So I tried to edit the files which comes with notepad++ and type
commentline="//"
for the xml. This didn't give anything. It would be really nice to be able to
do this.

If this is already possible, please tell me how to do it!

Thanks in advance.

http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/commun/screenshots/scrsh_multiView.gif shows
two pane with two different files.

To create a 'duplicate' view of the file - NPP allows you to edit / view the
same file in two different panels - right click on the file tab, it brings up
the context sensitive menu, select "clone to another view." You instantly have
another panel open with the same file at the same cursor location!! <-- two
thumbs up for NPP!! Hooray!!! :)

To move the file to the "other" panel, right click on the file tab, select "goto
another view", the file will be over the "other" panel instantly at the same
cursor location. Hooray!!!

Once you got two panels show up, you can resize the 'splitter', the bar between
the two files, to adjust the size of the panel. You can click on the arrows
at either end of the splitter to quickly hide the other panel.

A great trick, if you want to change the vertical panel to horizontal panel,
simply right click on the splitter, it brings up two options, "rotate to right"
& "rotate to left." Either option coverts horizontal to vertical. "rotate to
right" puts the left panel on top, while "rotate to left" places the right panel
on top. Hooray!!! Way to go Notepad Plus!!! :)

Cheers

Thank you. With this last message, and some trial and error,
partially due to the fact that my table is 481 rows in length,
I believe it is working as you described. It's great to be
able to get help when needed...and quickly!
            Thanks again.

In another editor I have, I can tailor the file explorer bar to display only
those files in which I am interested in editing. I.e., "filter out" .png, .gif,
.jpg, .pdf, .doc, .odt, etc. from the listed files, as they take up valuable
space. I don't find this in the Help files or the discussion threads here. Can
it be done?
