Are you sure, _both_ UP and DOWN keys show this behavior?

What (older) version of NP++ are you using??

Yes problem is really annoying! Yes I agree if I enter in document special
unicode
char (for example one Russian alphabet letter) then it correctly recognizes
file encoding "UTF-8 without BOM" but sometimes it's not possible to add this
letter and then if I reopen document it almost always is detected as clear ANSI.

For example Our well known editor PSPAD somehow managed this problem, even if
I make file with single "a" latter in it and choose encoding UTF-8 without BOM
after reopening it recognizes correctly...

Also if I am writing in this same forsaken :) Russian language characters and
forgot to change file codding to UTF-8 and left ANSI then after I switch this
language it makes all text unreadable... somehow PSpad managed this problem
too...

Thees are only two things that disturbs coding work and keeps many users to
still uses PSpad which is realy bloated and sometimes real crashy.

Good luck on next release, and hope You could solve these problems ;)

Hi all,

I suggest to modify the installation instruction (in this page:
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm) in the following way because
for the moment we still need to go to this forum to find a solution:

Installation Instruction:

    * Backup your original Notepad.exe (we never know...).
    * Copy notepad.exe which comes with this package into 4 directories (in
given order) :
         1. c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386 (or c:\i386 or ?? depending of
your version of Windows)
         2. c:\windows\system32\dllcache
         3. c:\windows\system32
         4. c:\windows
      When you replace notepad.exe in c:\windows\system32 and c:\windows, a
"Windows File Protection" message box appears, click Cancel. Then another
message
box appears, click OK (PS: I don't have this message, so I think we can remove
this sentence).
    * Modify you registry (if you have used installer to install your Notepad++,
you don't need to do this step): Create key
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Notepad++,
then add your Notepad++ full path as the default value of this key. In my case,
it's C:\Program Files\Notepad++.

Now Notepad++ is your default Notepad.

I have translated that from French and using the original text in English, so
the French version is probably also ok ;):

Instructions d'installation :
        1. Sauvegardez votre bloc-notes original dans
C:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386
                1. c:\windows\system32\dllcache
                2. c:\windows\system32
                3. c:\windows
        3. Modifiez votre base de registre (si vous avez install? votre
Notepad++
c'est C:\Program Files\Notepad++.

Maintenant Notepad++ remplace compl?tement votre bloc-notes.

I hope this message will help to improve a bit the N++ website.

BOM is used as a marker to indicate that text is encoded in UTF-8, UTF-16 or
UTF-32.
Ref :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_Order_Mark

When BOM is not present in a file, Notepad++ tries to look into the file to
open, in order to detect the presence of unicode characters. if nothing
detected,
then it treats opened file as ANSI file.
As a result, there's no way to make a ansi file (which contains no BOM neither
unicode characters) as a UTF-8 file.

So, i?ve got an solution for my "open direction from current file" Problem.

I go to Run -> Run... and in new open Window i typed -> $(CURRENT_DIRECTORY)
in empty field
and then is the trick -> hit save! Then you can define what you want. :-))

Perhaps that solved your blank space Problem, too!?

Try it out.

Regards

Hi Arthy

I changed a little bit of your script.
Can you have a little look at the script, if this ok?

And can you made also a log in same direction what is copied?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ code start ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
;backup Microsoft Notepad.exe, we never know :-)
DirCreate(@WindowsDir & "\Notepad-Backup")
If FileExists(@WindowsDir & "\notepad.exe") Then FileCopy(@WindowsDir &
"\notepad.exe", @WindowsDir & "\Notepad-Backup\notepad.exe", 1)
;temporary disables protection for notepad.exe
If FileExists(@WindowsDir & "\servicepackfiles\i386\notepad.exe") Then
DllCall(@SystemDir & "\SFC_OS.DLL","dword", 5, "dword", 0, "wstr", @WindowsDir
& "\servicepackfiles\i386\notepad.exe", "dword", -1)
DllCall(@SystemDir & "\SFC_OS.DLL","dword", 5, "dword", 0, "wstr", @SystemDir
DllCall(@SystemDir & "\SFC_OS.DLL","dword", 5, "dword", 0, "wstr", @SystemDir
& "\notepad.exe", "dword", -1)
DllCall(@SystemDir & "\SFC_OS.DLL","dword", 5, "dword", 0, "wstr", @WindowsDir
& "\notepad.exe", "dword", -1)
;notepad++ replacement location
$file=".\notepad.exe"
;replaces notepad.exe
If FileExists(@WindowsDir & "\servicepackfiles\i386\notepad.exe") Then
FileCopy($file, @WindowsDir & "\servicepackfiles\i386\notepad.exe", 1)
FileCopy($file, @SystemDir & "\dllcache\notepad.exe", 1)
FileCopy($file, @SystemDir & "\notepad.exe", 1)
Hi again,
  one more thing I just thought of:
  If you think his feature is difficult to implement because of NP++ supporting
different fonts at once - even proportional fonts, the explizit column mode
is the solution for this problem too:
  When switching into explizit column mode, nobody would try to argue against
it if you would only use only one non-proportional font - e.g. Courier. This
way real block selections are much easier as well as column inserts in one
column
after all line endings.
Best regards,
Ralph Gutmann.
Normally, the shorcut mapper interface display problem for Russian is fixed
in v4.5.
I can not test it, so please let me know if this part is fixed.
AFAIK, wine is available under MacOSX (which is based on FreeBSD). So install
wine to run Notepad++. (is anyone in here tried it out ?)
For the moment, I'm looking for a solution to adapt Notepad++ to the other
platform
by using winelib library to compile Notepad++ natively.
If anyone has experience about it, please contact me to help.
