Hiya,

When ever I'm working with files on my webserver (which I connect to through
sftp), notepad will hang for about 3 seconds when I focus on any specific file
within notepad++. I know this is my problem (slow connection or whatever), but
is there any way I can stop notepad++ from accessing a file in any way unless
it's saving or opening? If this is not the issue, what else could it be?

Thanks!

Thanks a lot for this great editor.

I would like to suggest the following.

You could add an option to save a file in a temporary place and then open it
in another program. For example, I would like to write C++ code and then send
the code to MS Visual C++ Compiler. Now, I have to save the file, then go to
my save folder, double click it and open it with my compiler. It would be great
if you could add this option as an extra future to the Run menu for example.

Thank you.

Thanks you for this great editor.

Could you please keep current cursor position and selected area when switching
Hex/Text view?

It is annoying that I lost the input focus after I switched text view to hex
view.

Regards,

David.D

goto %programfiles%\notepad++\ and open contexmenu.xml and add anywhere this
lines!

<Item id="43004"/>

now you have a contexmenu option.

Hi,

It's fine to have a context menu entry for N++ at Vista 64 bit but at my
Notebook
it does not work. If I activate N++ from the context menu I just get the
following
error message: "Error creating process: nppcm.dll needs to be in the same
directory
as the notepad++ executable". But the DLL is inside the same directory because
by clicking on the normal icon N++ works fine.

Do U've any suggesting for a solution of my problem?

Sighing greetings

Reiner

I have Notepad++ running on four Vista boxes.

On 3 it runs fine, no UAC prompts at all.

On the fourth one, at one point it did something that confused Vista, and to
protect me, Vista put Notepad++ in some kind of "always do UAC mode".

Like what is mentioned above, the "always do UAC mode" is only on gup.exe. But
the question remains, why does it happen only on this computer and not the other
3 Vista machines?

Just search nppcm.dll in your system - I'm quite sure that the registered one
is the bad one.
unreginsted it, reboot your system, delete the first one then register the
second
one which is located in you notepad++ directory.

I think I answered my own question.

I found that NotePad++ was listed twice in keys under registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags

Apparently when the Program Compatibility Assistant detects a problem with part
of Notepad++, it forces it into a mode that requires UAC, and it does so by
creating registry entries for the program somewhere in keys under the above
key. Indeed, the Program Compatibility Wizard (not same as Assistance mentioned
above) shows Notepad++ has a setting named ELEVATECREATEPROCESS.

I'll bet there is some problem with Notepad++ or gup.exe that is causing this.
I have other applications, like WinSCP, that are able to check online for newer
versions and don't require UAC prompts.

Congratulation for the docking window, it doesn't make npp crash anymore. You
finally made it.

Just one thing :
the size of dll is quite large (662 KB), I suppose the binary is compiled in
debug mode.
Could you do it in release mode so I can include it in v4.8 release?

Don

I've come up with a useful (at least in my opinion) plugin, specifically
designed
to quickly insert special characters into the document. It's like the Windows
Character map, but with filters.

To explain this plugin, let me give you an example of how it works.

You select a capital A in Notepad++. You then select the option from the menu
(not sure yet what to call it). A window appears with a capital A in a field
at the top, and a bunch of buttons below it with captions such as
"?","?","&Aacute;", and "&#65;". You press one of these buttons, and the
highlighted A in Notepad++ is replaced by the caption of the button.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a single character that you highlight. For
example, you might highlight "&Aacute;" in the text, and it would bring up the
same options.

It works by grouping short pieces of text for the purpose of filtering. All
of the above options, for instance, are variations of a capital A, and therefore
highlighting any of them tells it that you want to look up all the other
variations.
If you highlight a capital E or variation of it, you would get a different set
of options.

You can also type your text directly into the field at the top of the window
and it would update the button captions in real time.

You don't have to have any text highlighted to use it; it will insert the text
at the cursor position instead.

The groups are configured in an .ini file, so you can add to or modify it to
suit your own needs.

The coding is 99% finished, and I plan to release it next week some time. My
#1 issue is: What should I call the darn thing? Any ideas?
