Is there a way to disable newline autocompletion when editing a HTML document?
I find it really annoying when it fills in </ br> tag everytime I make a new
line wich is far from what I want
and I think it is a really stupid feature

Just posted about the same problem but when I read your post I figured it out

It's not the +Autoclose XHTML/XML <Tag> option that makes the </ br>
autocompletions,
it's the +Autoconvert typed HTML/XML to &entities; that makes them.

This works imo the wrong way around, at least for scandinavian characters as
it doesn't
converts ?, ?, ? to å &aulm; o¨ respectively. All it seems to do
is fill
in a </ br> tag when pressing the enter-key wich imo is a really stupid and
unnecessary feature

Just try it within a wrapped text and things go wrong.

I created a few new tags in php and cannot use them within wrapped text
2 Times my NP crashed, 10 or more times I wrote the tag and after CTRL-ENTER
the tag was disappeared.

If I don't wrapped the text the tags are working well.

There's something to be said for aesthetics. I won't use VIM because it
is aesthetically displeasing, yet it is more powerful. Notepad++ has very nice
rendering of text, and I spent some hours working on a color scheme I enjoy.
Why not have background images too? (Although I wonder, wouldn't a background
image be distracting?)

Yes, this is a low priority. But maybe someone similarly interested will develop
a plugin?

recompile Notepad++

Thanks.

It'd be cool if the option was there by default.

We would like to use notepad++ for editing LaTeX files in a publishing
environment.
I am very impressed with it. But some of our full-time typesetters absolutely
require that when text is selected and you type or paste, that the selected
text is not replaced. MS Word and UltraEdit, WinEdt and others have this
feature.
Some allow you to choose if the pasted or typed text comes in before or after
the selected text.

Can anyone tell me how to go about adding this as a toggle in notepad++?

While in general I have nothing against adding new features if they're optional,
you also have to realize that every feature will affect performance. It will
use memory and disk space, and slow down the program (though admittedly usually
insignificantly).

Therefore, you have to weigh the advantages of a feature vs. its disadvantages.

In this case:

Advantages:

Makes Notepad++ look "pretty."
You could design a functional background image. (e.g. Grid, guidelines, etc)

Disadvantages:

Notepad++ would need to include libraries for image displaying, potentially
causing a significantly larger executable file. Including these libraries may
also slow the loading and running of Notepad++.
Don spends his time working on implementing this instead of adding other
features.
(To be fair, this applies to any feature he works on. It's called Opportunity
Cost in economics)

In my opinion, the disadvantages seem to outweigh the advantages in this case.

Now, if someone wanted to implement it as a plugin, I think that would be fine,
because not only could you disable the feature, you could remove it completely.
That would get rid of all of the disadvantages.

Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible to do as a plugin. I'd be happy
to be proven wrong, though.

Be nice. This is the "Open Discussion" forum after all, and the original post
is asking for an open discussion on styles. Sounds like a legitimate question
to me. He's probably just curious, and there's nothing wrong with that.

To answer the original question, I prefer black on white. Courier New for the
font, but any fixed-length font is fine with me. Pretty much the default
Notepad++
settings.

I'm trying this nice OS editor but...
I'm having many troubles with the search feature: when I select more than 63
(!?!?) chars and hit CTRL+F, the "Find:" field does contains the previous
less-than-64-chars string... why can't I search a 200-length string?

Even worse: there's no way to search for one or many line of text! How am I
supposed to replace, foe example, a couple of lines with another couple?

Thank you in advance...

So, when I write in UTF8 without BOM, and I want to replace all "c" characters
with "?" , I get nothing

example:
I have a Mac.

I want to replace to :
I have a Ma?

after command replace 'Mac' with 'Ma?'
the word stays Mac.

Hope you fix this soon
