Hello everyone,

thank you very much for your contributing to this interesting discussion. Am
sorry for not joining the discussion much earlier.
Brief history:
In my Introduction to software engineering (ISE) lessons we had a lecture on
Software Requirement Specifications (SRS). In this course we were introduced
to Open Source Software (OSS) and how it works and asked to make a contribution
as part of our course work. It happened that i have been using Notepad++ for
sometime now and it is open source so i decided to write and contribute this
SRS.
The discussion here tells me that OSS is a complicated environment (in licensing
terms) and i have a lot to learn. Pshute, Bravo! i realized that most of the
brilliant OSS developers never had or boast of so call university degrees, they
just make good software for all to benefit!
About the SRS document. I wrote it according to a template we were given. I
found the following sources very useful in writing the different sections;
Notepad++
website (which i must say is very comprehensive and useful for Notepad++ users),
the wiki at wikipedia, readme files, etc. However, its not perfect and i intend
to be refining it as time goes on so that we Notepad++ will have additional
material to use.

Fidvo and donho and Pshute: you are right about the usages of the term
"Freeware".
Having done a bit of reading and asking, i learnt that the ideological debate
sorrounding "Free", "Open", "Libre" is never ending. Fidvo and donho; should
i go ahead with replacing the term freeware with Free Software? if this suits
all in the project that's fine by me. Pshute thanks a lot for spotting some
of the errors.

I will implement your suggestions and upload a new version. I previously
uploaded
the document using the tracker. Now i have seen many options to upload the SRS.
I will upload the new version at "Documentation" > "Submit". Is that Ok?
Thanks a lot for taking your time to read and comment on the document.

I don't know how to sum this up into a subject. I'd like to know if it
spossible
to do a few actions against text, a list of text actuall.

I have a list of sites. and I get a new list of sites, I'd like to remove list
a from list b, not neccessarily that they are in order either, I just want to
find any and all complete lines in a and remove them from line b?

Also is there a way to check for duplicated lines? IE

Red
Green
Bule
Red
Yellow

it would find the second yellow and remove it?

Notepad++'s annoyances with UTF-8 is the SOLE reason I stopped using it. I need
ALL my files to BE utf-8 and for some reason Notepadd++ (4.5) insisted it be
something else. I had to open files in other programs like Dreamweaver and
change
encoding.

I'm downloading newest version to see if anything has changed, if not, I'm
sticking
with Eclipse (feels bloated, but has gotta love the sysntax warnings when you
make a mistake ;) )

Oh, by the way, when will Notepad++ UPDATE ITSELF???

sessions don't work in utf-8 because of BOM.
Notepad++ has issues with utf-8
Everybody should be using utf-8 because it makes life so much easier when
creating
multilingual projects

To remove duplicate lines, act like described in an earlier message. Try
searching
for it by using something like "remove+duplicate".

You might be able to achieve this in a similar way as described to remove
duplicate
lines.

This may involve inserting line numbers, sorting the lines on their original
contents, comparing them with a file comparison tool which allows showing only
the differences and copying or exporting those results. You then still have
to sort those lines by their original line numbers and remove those after that.

I see what happened. Judging by the time stamp on the .dll, I must have
uploaded
the wrong one. The working version is on my computer at work, so it will be
a few hours before I get the correct one uploaded.

Sorry.

Actually, looking at the timestamps on the source code too, maybe I didn't
upload
the wrong one after all.

I just downloaded version 1.12 from SourceForge and copied the .dll into my
plugins folder to make sure I'm using the same one as everyone else. I'm not
seeing the same problems that are being reported. Everything seems to work
just fine for me.

Those who are getting the problem with it not closing properly or locking up,
could you tell me what version of Notepad++ you're using (including whether
you downloaded the installer or the .zip file)?

I'm using 4.7.5 without the installer. Anyone using the same version and still
getting the problems?

That was just a small mistake. I forgot to change the version number on the
About screen. That shouldn't affect the operation of the plugin though.
