When will 9.0 be available?

The package contains both a CharM.ini and a Substitution.ini file.
If you included both files intentionally, I think it's strange they both have
the same contents. Seems like some remains of a previous naming.

By the way, when you see Character Map included in the title of the subject,
don't you think it would have been better to simply name the Plug-In Character
Map as well?

What's the use of having to explain a fancy name, that's just there for being
fancy?

It's just wa-ay too arrogant for my liking.
I was silly enough to simply install the latest release without setting a decent
checkpoint etc. N++ has now "stolen" so many file associations, changed the
icons etc.
Too many files, the default action in explorer is now "open in Notepad".

all .bat files.
all the .css files
all my .htm files !!!!

Notepad is now uninstalled.
NOT FUNNY !!!

I guess that's because it's never been a problem to anyone before and the coder
didn't think of this while writing the particular piece of code for the active
line.

> Is this hard-coded into the program?

Brace highlighting is only implemented for single characters as far as I know.
You will find a couple of matches when searching for them in the .xml files.

OK, this is more clear. Thanks for explaining.

Yes, Notepad++ currently doesn't keep track of session changes due to closing
and opening files. I think it is legitimate to ask for this feature. Since
changes
will be saved to the default session file on exit (when the option for that
is checked), it is easy to expect similar behavior when opening an other session
than the default one. Perhaps some handling could be added when Notepad++ is
specifically started with one session file by the command line parameter (this
could be made dependent of having the -multiinst paramater also).

> e) --> the command line associated to session extension is restored to the
default

This looks like unwanted behavior to me. There have also been similar reports
about Notepad++ removing any additional information on icons/files. Notepad++
shouldn't set file associations and things like that time and time again, but
only when a user specifically changes things.

Oops. I meant version 0.9 is fully functional. Version 9.0 should be out in
2011.

You can call self.Hide in stead of self.Close.

Yes, that's exactly right. I forgot to take it out before zipping up the files.
You can ignore the Substitution.ini file. It doesn't have any effect on the
plugin.

> What's the use of having to explain a fancy name, that's just there for being

It's shorter. I decided to go with a shorter name in case I decide to make
the form dockable in the future (probably not, but who knows?), so the name
will fit better on the tab. I think most programmers, when they see "Char"
in the name will recognize that it has something to do with text characters.
You're right that it's not a perfect name, but if I continued to wait for a
perfect name, I would never get it uploaded.

Anyway, it's too late now. The plugin has been named and now that it's up on
SourceForge, we're stuck with it.

Why remove a button that has a clear meaning and is much more common to press
than a "desastrous" X that is there on any form?

1) Explorer plugin doesn't have a Close button. Light Explorer plugin doesn't
have a Close button. Function List plugin doesn't have a close button. DBGP
plugin doesn't have a close button. These are all the plugins with docking
forms that I could think of. Having a close button is not so common.

2) The Close button was left over from when the Script Writer was a modal form,
where it makes much more sense.

3) The Close button duplicated functionality that was already there.

4) I needed a quick solution because there was a much more serious problem that
needed to be fixed right away.

5) Zobo: I tried both Hide and Close, and they both did the same thing. I
didn't
try prefixing them with "self." but unless I'm mistaken, that should be
optional.
That's probably the main reason why I removed it, because I couldn't figure
out how to fix it.

That said, if it's really that important to people, I don't mind adding it back
if I can get it to actually work.

If you would like to continue this discussion, please post in the thread for
the newer version:

There's no way that Notepad++ "steals" the file associations, neither by
notepad++
itself, nor by notepad++ installer. I can confirm you that.

If the file types are associated with Notepad++, it's certainly you set them.

Perhaps you could be a little more specific about how this person might have
done this himself.

By the way, why did you remove the other message?
