I see in the changelog for version 4.8.x there's a new feature to launch as
notepad with notab, multiInst, and noSession. Sounds great, but ... what do
I do?

So, now that I'm thinking about this, I want to use the launcher provided on
the downloads page to replace notepad throughout the OS with NPP. I'd like
it so that when Windows launches NPP (for example, when I open a .txt file)
there's no function list plugin showing, no tab bar, no FTP sync, and no light
explorer (at least two of which is always running when I use NPP normally).
Ideally, I'd even get rid of the icon toolbar. That way, when Windows launches
it thinking it's actually launching normal notepad.exe, it looks almost exactly
like normal notepad.exe, but retains all the great NPP functionality.

Any help? Thanks!

you could make a minimal copy of Notepad++ installation and use dolocalconf.xml
to keep it in one place, then set all the settings as minimalistic as you want
(no toolbar/no tabbar). Then have the Notepad++ launcher point to there if that
possible
