If you pick the line After you started recording, the macro will always pick
that line as its first action, unless you moved to it with your arrow keys or
similar (ie, not with the mouse).

I'm new to Notepad++ and I'd like to use it for my PHP/HMTL editing. How can
I make Notepad++ to recognise when I'm typing text inside <p> tags so it can
convert accented letters in the correspondent html code?
Thanks!

Dark-

Hi,

There seem to be a problem with highlighting parenthesis. NP++ increases the
font size of the brackets and this kinda shifts them to the right. Usually this
looks tolerable, but in comments it becomes not only ugly, but also deceivable.
Observe.

Original text:
<img src="http://i38.tinypic.com/dhaiqp.jpg"; />

Now I put cursor before the bracket:
<img src="http://i38.tinypic.com/11goyeu.jpg"; />

And now it is after the bracket (one right arrow key press):
<img src="http://i38.tinypic.com/xd60eh.jpg"; />

In the last picture it seems as though the cursor is before the bracket, while
it's not.

My suggestion would be to fix the crazy shifting (hard one) or to disable
parenthesis
highlighting in comments at all (easy one).

I usually set the parenthesis highlight size to the default value to prevent
this (it helps pretty good),
but otherwise there isnt much you can do. The text rendering is done by the
Scintilla component which goes beyond the scope of Notepad++.

Do I need to add a feature request or are you going to work on adding it?

Hey everyone. I've never used Notepad++ before but after reading a little bit
it seems that it may be able to solve my problem. Here's what's up.

I work for a large mobile phone game developer. I recently got promoted and
I'm one of 2 people who are responsible for the packaging and delivery of ALL
the builds to ALL the north american carriers after they pass internal QA
testing.
Right now I can see that packaging the J2me files is going to be a huge pain
in my arse. I'm wondering if I can minimize this pain. Here is an example of
a common jad file we may use for t-mobile:

MIDlet-Name: Sourceforge rules!
MIDlet-Version: 0.4.46
MIDlet-Vendor: yo mama!
MIDlet-1: Yo mama,/icon.png,AppYomama
MIDlet-Icon: /icon.png
MIDlet-Data-Size: 1000
MIDlet-Jar-URL: sfr_f_tmo_t219_en_fr_it_de_es_mama_v0-4-46.jar
MIDlet-Jar-Size: 397307
Enable-Cheats: True
Enable-GetGames: True
GetGames-Link: www.getgames.com/test

Now somebody forgot to disable cheat! Also since this is the build for
submission
we won't be needing the test site anymore for the get games api. It may seem
simple but going into every jad file and manually editing them is bound to cause
errors. Those errors cost me time and with some carriers it will even cost money
when it fails their QA process.

Is notepad capable of going into every subfolder in a specified folder, open
every .jad file and perform the following tasks:

Change all instances of:
Enable-Cheats: True
to
Enable-Cheats: False

Change all instances of:
GetGames-Link: www.getgames.com/test
to
GetGames-Link: www.getgames.com/

Here is another problem I'm having:
I often need to change the filenames. Problem is when I change the filename
then I also need to go into the jad and change this line:
MIDlet-Jar-URL: sfr_f_tmo_t219_en_fr_it_de_es_mama_v0-4-46.jar

so that it will match the new jar filename. Since the jad and jar filename
will always match is there a way I could have Notepad++ search for line item:
MIDlet-Jar-URL:
and change the original jar filename to the new jad/jar file name, but keep
the jar extension?

These are really just a very small example of how useful this functionality
could be for me. Sometimes I may be delivering a build for at&t that also works
on a lot of sprint devices as well. Therefor the .jad may have sprint mrc lines
that need to be removed completely. Don't even get me started with jamster!

It would also be great if I could set up different profiles for each of the
carriers.
Thanks.

First, welcome aboard

As for your first problem, what I would do is this:
1) Open all the files that need to be corrected (you can make a search with
windows' F3 and then open them all with N++)
2) Go to Replace (Ctrl+F) . and replace "Enable-Cheats: True" with
"Enable-Cheats:
False" with the "Replace All in All Open Documents"

Regarding problem number 2, after you change the name of the file, you could
open it, and do something like record a macro which you could call "Update JAR
Name" or whatever, that would:
1) Find the "MIDlet-Jar-URL:" string
2) Delete the content that follows that string (Right Arrow, Shift+End, Delete)
3) Insert the file's name (for this you could do it in many ways.. I guess
assigning
a shortcut to the "Menu Plugins->Insert->Current File Name" would be the best,
but maybe just Right click on the tab -> File name to clipboard" will do it
4) Delete the "D" of JAD and add the "R" of JAR

Hope it helps!

suggestion: please change the Description (metadata) of the notepad++.exe file.

the current description:
'Notepad++ : a free (GNU) source code editor'
is much too long and makes the context menu of associated files way too big
& ugly

why not simply make the description say something like, 'Notepad++ Editor' which
would be less cumbersome on context (right-click) menu

thanks
