Sorry if this is a dumb question, but does Notepad++ have a way of inserting
on the next line while in the middle of the current one? A lot of IDEs allow
you to do this by pressing shift+enter. Eclispe calls it Insert Line Below
Current
Line.

I've been using NotePad++ (Unicode) 5.1.4 for some time now, and it is very
frustrating that the default of tabs not converting to 4 spaces can not
be changed.

If I open the preferences dialogue and tick the "Replace by space" within the
"Tab Setting" section in the "Edit Components" tab the current session operates
as expected, using 4 spaces when the tab is pressed.
If NotePad++ is closed, there is a standard windows error sound (no message
box however).
When NotePad++ is started again, it returns to using tabs instead of spaces.

So I did a clean install (i.e. no plugins) of NotePad++ (Unicode) 5.3.1.
Same result.

I have tried editing the config.xml directly. This doesn't fix the problem
(however
the value of replaceBySpace is still set to "yes").

I'm running XP PRO SP3.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I've discovered that it only appears to occur with ANSI encoding (Windows, Unix
or Mac format). UTF-8 and UCS work as expected.

It's nothing to do with plugins (all disabled), file locations or permissions.
I am using Vista if that makes a difference.

When saving, NP++ creates the file and thinks it's been saved. Subsequent edits
and saves also appear to be normal and the app will close down without prompting
to save, crashing, or reporting errors. It's only when you look at the file
that you discover it's zero bytes.

It is possible to save as UTF-8, then convert to ANSI - everything works fine
then. It's only the initial save in ANSI format that appears to cause the
problem.

Editing any file (even an empty one) works absolutely fine. In fact, you can
save the zero-byte ANSI file, close NP++, restart it (sessions enabled), edit
the blank document, and saving will work.

I just recently installed notepad++ It was working fine for the last 2 days.
I am using it to edit PHP and HTML files so I am doing alot of file > save to
save my work. Now the save option is not enabled when I load any type of file.
Or if I start a new file and save it, then click file again the "save" option
is not enabled. The save as option and all of the other one's are. How can I
fix this?

I have not had this experience with 5.2 (unicode). My tab settings and other
options seem to work just fine session to session being saved exactly as I would
expect.

Can you verify that you have write permissions to the directory to the
appropriate
files?

Did you install in "portable mode" or is N++ storing its apdata information
in the standard Windows location? If the later, do you have write access there?

I have exactly the same issue. There doesn't seem to be a specific click or
action that causes a crash. I always have multiple tabs open and am not doing
anything fancy. Sometimes it will not crash for a couple of weeks and other
times, like today, it crashes multiple times a day.
Also, when it crashes and I restart it, the files that open up are from well
before the crash. They are files that have been closed well before the crash.
The file I was working on at the moment of the crash seems to have been saved
correctly, but it is never one of the files that opens up upon a restart.
I am using version 5.2.

Do you expect to be able to do this while having some selected text? The
selection
will be lost anyway (bbut not its contents), and the cursor position will be
preserved:

If no text is selected:
<Enter><End><Enter><Up arrow><Backspace>
If some text is selected:
<Ctrl-D><Enter><End><Enter><Up arrow><Backspace>

I don't know of a way to do this regardless of anything being selected.

CChris

I find it very inconvenient to press F2 several times in order to find the
desired
bookmark.
Other editors have numbered bookmarks:
Pressing Ctrl+Shift+[0..9] will create a bookmark
pressing Ctrl+[0..9] will position the cursor to the corresponding [x,y]
position.

(Example: Ctrl+Shift+2 ..... Ctrl+2)

Are there any plugins that have this functionality?
Thanks.
