I can confirm that Notepad++ doesn't crash: I use it up to 8 hours every day
and everything's fine. On the other hand, I've never tried the FTP plugin, so
I don't know about it.

I'm confused. At the top of the auto-complete page on the Notepad++ site it
says that the extension for the auto-complete file is .xml but at the bottom
it says it must have a .api extension. Which is correct?
Also, will it work if I put it in %USERPROFILE%\Application
Data\Notepad++\plugins\APIs? That is where all my personal plugins are and they
work.
Thanks for the help.

I can tell you that yes, Notepad++ crashes on me from time to time. That
happens
slmost strictly when I compare two files in Hex display... But I've never lost
even so far not even a single character.
Which brings me to a serious question: do you save regularly?? I mean, are you
telling us that you're uploading a file with 300 lines of code change without
having even saved it?! And if it was saved (several times I'd expect), I'd be
surprised that crashing while uploading something to an FTP server would erase
your file.

Is there a way to have Notepad++ to warn you when you make a syntax error? For
example let say I open the <body> tag but forget to close it.

You may have your opinion but all the things you say are when you use the FTP
plugin!
I also use notepad++ for websites creation/maintenance but as FTP client I use
filezilla and configured filezilla that notepad is my view/edit software. I
never had the problems you say.
When I change the code and save it, filezilla ask me if i want to upload the
changed file.
Maybe try this sollution before saying notepad++ is bad and that maqybe your
problem is a plugin problem.
Greetz

If there is any, it outsmarts me so far :->
I have tried the following, which DOESN'T work:
1/ recording "Open in another instance" command as macro - doesn't record
2/ record a macro modification event - neither
So the only closest thing I can think of is having two macros, one for 5 and
oe for 0 (and perhaps more), and use them as appropriate. Unless someone is
more clever.
CChris
PS: a DOS editor I had mentioned earlier (Bingo) would allow that by editing
the UI plain text file using another macro, generating the new binary UI file
thru a shell command and then reloading it on the fly.

I used to have a lot of auto completion scripts.
Like I could type only "inc" at the beginning of a line and then press
"CTRL-ENTER"
and have it replace my text with any text of my choice, in this case "inc" was
replaced with
#include <$> With the cursor being placed where the $ symbol is.
I had others that were much more complex but now this feature doesn't work.
I am not sure exactly when it stopped working, but lately I am really starting
to miss it.
I have spend some time trolling through the menus and I can't even find where
I got to enter these shortcuts.
I can remember exactly what the screen looked like where I was editing these
shortcuts. But I can't seem to find it.
Was this feature removed? Was this just a plug-in that I had downlaoded that
has gone "invalid" after upgrading to unicode?
Thanks in advance for any information..

Hello,
I've been using Notepad++ for years, and I love it. I have thought several
times about getting involved with the project to add some code, but have never
been able to find the time. Anyway, thanks for all your efforts!
Here's my complaint:
I used to do this all the time:
- Drag 'n drop a file into Notepad++
- Hit CTRL+SHIFT+F to start a Find in All files
- type in my phrase and hit enter
- Wait a few seconds (depending on the number of subdirectories)
- Get results
I used this workflow ALL the time to search for phrases in our vast code base.
This worked because the default directory when hitting CTRL+SHIFT+F was the
directory that the file I dropped in. However, now, it defaults to the
previously
used directory.
This change in functionality makes one of my favorite uses of Notepad++ take
4-5x longer, as I have to browse to find the directory I'm looking for.
When was this change made? I always keep up-to-date on all the versions, so
it must have been recently. Can we revert the functionality to be what it was
before? If not, can we at least make it configurable so Notepad++ still works
for my favorite use?
Thanks!
Matt
P.S. I absolutely LOVE that it stores previous "Find in Files" results for the
session and that you can expand/collapse them, this is a huge improvement.
