This brings up a separate question - how do you search Sourceforge forums?
The only search functions I see search SourceForge for software. The forum
software used by SF seems to be incredibly basic. No topic watching (only forum
watching), no searching (as far as I can tell), etc.

Scratch that last question (there's another missing feature - deleting/editing
one's own messages). I found it in the forum pull-down menu (which, being
JavaScript, wasn't found with a text search for "search").

Sorry Don, I didn't want to displease you. May be I was awkward or too long,
so I retry:
- In about all programs, "Ctrl+S" (or equivalent) actually saves the document,
*be it changed or not*; so this is what users are expecting.
- Notepad++ is doing something different from what the user (customer) is
expecting.
Such discrepancies are a major cause of problems, misunderstandings between
user, program, programmer, or other issues, big or small.
- Whence my suggestion:
--- either make NPPP behave like other programs, and save *anyway*
--- or, when you (the program) is about to do something unexpected, then first
ask the user, here by a dialog "The document is unchanged. Are you sure you
want to save it?"
Now this is just a suggestion, just on a little point; please feel free to just
ignore it if you don't like it.

Notepad++ is for very special people: smart ones.
So, you are behaving very differently from the common visitor here. You should
have warned anyone about this behavior, so no-one would have spent their time
on you.
It's very simple. If you don't like Notepad++ because it does not what YOU want,
then STOP using it. Use one of those "all" programs that are of the simple
logical
level you like.
You are crying about something that doesn't make any sense at all.
Stop bothering this smart community, please.

fool4uanyway: There's no need to be a douchebag to a user asking for some
features.
IMO, michelmerlin's request is legitimate, as some programmer's editor behave
like that, MSVC and gVim for example (no small players!), while emacs won't
save but will tell you that there are no changes to be saved.
What's more, it wouldn't be much of a hassle to implement, and on top of that,
it could be made a user option (save unchange files [on] [off]).

Thx "christian cuvier" for your 2009-07-15 16:43 timely reply.
? The term "localisation"... ?
In my Notepad++ 5.3.1 (UNICODE) of 29 Mar 2009, it is written the US way
("Localization").
? ...choosing the language for a user interface ?
This is precisely what made your post uncertain since it was replying to someone
asking NOT about languages, NOT about fonts, BUT about *charsets* (or character
encoding).
? Settongs -> Stylers Configurator... ?
"Notepad++ > Settings > Style Configurator > Global Styles: Default Style" is
visibly about the *fonts* that will be used in Notepad++ interface, NOT about
the character encoding of the document being edited.
? Old time fonts, sometimes called DOS fonts, encode characters over one byte...
?
We are talking here of *charsets*, NOT of *code pages* (neither DOS nor Windows)
or of "fonts". Confusion is frequent (from everyone), so please for your
particular
question, see my reply #7 or #8 to Jim Pickering, "OEM code pages (DOS) ==?
ANSI code pages (Windows) ==? ISO charsets ==? UTF (Unicode)" of Wed 17 Jan
2007 in thread:
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general/browse_fr
m/thread/4a52ed2c43276354
"OE (Outlook Express) can't edit HTML source of UTF-8 European messages".

Just tried with iso-8859-1 with French text, it works for me.
Which ANSI encoding do you use?
Don

That's SQL lexer issue, which is in the scope of Scintilla, but not Notepad++.

ASP syntax highlighter not working for server-side JScript and also inline CSS
