Suggest an option that forces whitespace to be visible when you can't guess
it is there. Basically this means trailing whitespaces rather than space within
the line. By trailing white space, this is to include space leading up to a
screen linebreak caused by wordwrap onto the next line, as well as any
whitespace
at the real end of a line.
There are several ways to do this.
All whitespace at the real end of a line can be shown with dots/tabs.
Whitespace at the end of a wordwrap-line could either be placed at the start
of the next line (so you can see it's there, because of the indent this causes),
or otherwise it can be shown as dots, using the following method:
if it's a single space between items broken onto different lines by wordwrap
that, without that space, would have not broken onto separate lines, then you
don't need to highlight it as you can see it's there by the word wrap position;
however, if it's multiple whitespace, or a space even without which the line
would have broken by wordwrap (such as a = b), then show it because you can't
guess it's there visually.
e.g. (with the | indicating a new line caused by wordwrap:)
Some text |new line - needn't show the space before the | linebreak because
the wordwrap makes it obvious it's there
Some text |new line - needs to show the two spaces before the | linebreak
a |=b - show the space before the | linebreak
Of course if it's a pain to code such fine detail, just showing
end-of-screen-line
spaces would suffice.

Many thanks for a great program!

david

Nissim,

I have to say it is quite impresive.

I find the style is sober and elegant as "splash screen".
Since it's about changing the look and feel, why don't we change the colour
scheme and the lizard picture (I like orange, but not green)?

> The site itself (the second layer, which I have not created yet) will have a
> banner on top with a logo and a nice narrow and wide chameleon picture...

Well, it's hard to me to image the second layer. A mockup will be more
self-expressive

In order to have various opinion, I upload the mockup you provided :
> #1: Is the home page
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/commun/misc/site1.jpg

> #2: What you see when you mouse over one of the menu items on the right.
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/commun/misc/site2.jpg

> #3: What you see when you mouse over one of the menu buttons below the
> chameleon
picture.
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/commun/misc/site3.jpg

> #4: What you see when you mouse over one of the links in the footer.
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/commun/misc/site4.jpg

Now for the questions :
1. The current site are translated in several languages, and the current
system(only
php and html, w/o DB) favorates the contributions of translators ( see
: http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/skinflint.php ). So in the future (new
site with php + mysql), how can we build a procedure to make the contribution
of translation easier?

2. Javascript : Probably you are one of members of anti-javascript club. I would
like to know anyway : is it possible to detect the javascript status (activated
or not) in users? browser in order to generate (or not) the javascript code.
I?d like to keep some features of current site ? for example the folding
capacity.

3. I'd like to know in which way you will reorganize the existing element in
your "second layer". All in one line (or one column) menu (again, a mockup will
help me get the whole picture)?

4. Like I said, I'm impressed by the first mockup. However, I would like to
know if there is a "design B"?

Thank you for your time and your nice mockup.

Don

Let me try to make a wise-guy impression by fooling you.

Move the cursor to the top of the document: Ctrl+Home.

Use the Text FX Advanced Find/Replace Dialog to do almost all line( end)s.

In the Find Field, enter:
<Ctrl+Enter>

In the Replace Field, enter
<Ctrl+Enter>
your_text_to_be_inserted_here_on_the_second_line

Do UNcheck the Regular Expression mode and possibly Wrap and (In) Selection
checkboxes.

Find and replace all occurrences.

Now you only still have to insert the text on the very first line yourself.

Perhaps you should read the Wiki contents about (finding and replacing)
newlines.

Notepad++ doesn't seem to be saving my window size in Windows 7. When I
"relaunch"
N++, i.e. if I "open with" a file from Explorer, the file opens, and N++ resizes
to its initial size. Very annoying when I have N++ sized to half the screen
to see two things at once and it never persists! I can't find an option in
the settings to address this, is it a bug or is there something I'm missing?

Hi,
a 25MB file opens in 1sec on my computer.
I have 2 tabs in N++ - 25MB file and a small file.
When I deactivate N++ and then activate it again, there appears a window to
reload the ig file (it was changed in the background).
The problem:
If the current tab was the big file, the reload is very fast (0.5sec).
If the current tab was the small file, the reload is almost immediate. But When
I then change tab to the big 25MB file, it takes 18sec to unfreeze!

Get a free window manager off the net, and check it will work on Windows 7.

I'd recommend HandyThing v3.05 (subsequent versions are not free). Will it work
on Win7? I don't know, works on XP.

<bump/>
Tip: if you use a tabbed browser, type
https://sourceforge.apps/ideatorrent/notepad-plus/ideatorrent/ as the address
for a new tab. Then, for each vote, edit the address by appending
vote/<solution_id>/<vote_being_cast>/ The solution id reads on the status bar.
Vote being cast is 1 / 0 / -1 in an obvious way.

Hoopefully SF does something about it.
