Well, there's possibly {{tmpfs}}, with a custom {{general.volume.chooser}}.
But, also, generally, there's the use case of expansion or combining two
instances.
In general, I'd probably not recommend using two different kinds of
filesystems, but I do think Accumulo should be agnostic to the implementation
of the volume.
