Christopher Tubbs commented on ACCUMULO-780:
--------------------------------------------

I think the heuristics are a good idea, but it seems like they can be addressed
in (more specific) follow on issues, can't they?

[~vines]: I think the 3GB example that existed prior already suffered from that
same problem, didn't it? The patch provided doesn't add any new options, except
the choice of which hadoop flavor to use, which was previously just a
commented-out option.

I think to satisfy this ticket, without creeping too far into other issues, it
would be sufficient to add an "Other" memory option and prompt for additional
size options.

I did see that [~John McNamee] had added a link to the ReviewBoard above.

> We currently have a few different footprints available for users. We should
> use those as a base and allow users to quickly and conveniently configure
> their system for whatever size footprint they want. We can use the current as
> a baseline and extrapolate/interpolate for whichever setup they're using.
> This way we don't have to worry about maintaining a bunch of different sizes
> and instead just have an algorithm that needs occasional loving.
