ctubbsii commented on issue #273: Fallback to archive.apache.org if mirror does not have tarball for specific version URL: https://github.com/apache/fluo-muchos/issues/273#issuecomment-522133890 > It seems like for this use case, the IP would be below the 5GB per day mentioned. Yes, but the Muchos case is added to all the other use cases that a user might have... which we cannot know. It's safer to avoid it, especially since we don't actually need to use it. The use case is not that important, IMO. > @ctubbsii do you know of any other Apache documents providing more specific guidance on how archive should or should not be used? No, but I watch the infra mailing list, and I see how frequent the requests are for requesting unbans. Too often, these bans are caused by people scripting downloads from archive.apache.org when a single manual download would have satisfied their use case. My personal opinion is that use of archive.apache.org should always be human-interactive, and never scripted or automated, in order to avoid abuse of the system. If you really need something from the archives, you can download it manually once, and configure your scripts to grab it from wherever you put your downloaded copy. I can't think of any good reason to *need* to script downloads from archive.apache.org when the use can be satisfied another way.
