Ok, I pushed in changes which incorporate this work. There is some differences
in windows bash behaviour, which require diffent style of escaping when
invoking cmd.exe. Or this might be terminal difference, I'm not sure.
The style that is now checked in expects the underlying bash to be git-bash,
which comes bundled with git installation. And that 'newt debug' is invoked
from windows command prompt.
