There's definitively a JDK bug, as @xxDark managed to cause assertion failures in the JDK when the code was called from the wrong thread. I don't think that's good: For the purposes of actually fixing the bug, "nearly always" is something we can work with. "Hard to reproduce" is much more frustrating.
