You know my position on this subject. I'm not strictly against a complete
translation but I remember previous efforts failed (Hans's mostly). Though it
was not exactly the same kind of thing, since we tried with the content
component, I'm still worried about one point: long term maintenance. Because
there is nothing worse than a wrong documentation which points you to wrong
links or gives you wrong information.
That's why I suggested a simpler approach: simply having a French main page
explaining things to our targets. Like it's already in the site and our MLS, I
see 2 populations: users and developpers. Sincerely I don't think a French dev
interested by OFBiz needs a translation. OK this is my POV, but it's quite
pragmatic: for good reason we only officially exchange on OFBiz in English. So
a developer needs in 1st place to understand English.
Now about users, I believe they don't need to have all the site translated and
this translation maintained. They need proper information specifically intended
to them. So yes, it's easy to translate the site. But I believe we should
rather think before at the population we want to reach and act accordingly. For
me the French page should be pure marketing, we have the "savoir faire" we need
to "faire savoir".
Anyway, if a majority of commiters able to understand and wanting to maintain
at long terms a complete, or even a partial, translation of the site, then I
would of course follow the majority ...
