You are right the date({col}) function is much clearer, i assume the current
version was for maximum compatibility, to work on almost any version or
platform of DB2.
I can apply the modern trunc_timestamp fucntion for HOUR, MINUTE and
SECONDS. It is the standard function for this operation in modern versions of
db2.
