Hey @rusackas @mistercrunch, I had some time to look at this. Due to the state of the current PR, I decided to open a new PR to try to implement the change on an up-to-date version of the `master` branch. I used your PR as a scaffold for the changes. Currently, the CI is all green, and all AI suggestions have been applied except one that seems overkill. I will update it if needed.
