GitHub user herve-lg edited a comment on the discussion: Idea/Wish: geometric
data from Deck.gl readable in a format other than GeoJSON -> XYZ vector tiles

Hello @sohil-chhabra,

Thank you for your interest in this question.

Your approach is probably the best. Just as "deck.gl Geojson" allows you to
display the geometries of a string in Geojson format, it would be logical to
consider creating a new "deck.gl" chart to display the vector tiles.

Note that "deck.gl Geojson" does not allow you to view any "properties"
included in the geojson. Conversely, my wish is to view the StyleJSON
categories of vector tiles. For example, for a "fill" type:
{
"paint": {
"fill-color"
"match",
["get","sub_element"],
"sub_element1",
"#160e9f",
"sub_element2",
"#578fe3",
"rgba(0,0,0,0)"
]
}
}

To do this, Superset must of course be able to read the MVT vector tiles, but
also:
- either read a specific StyleJSON (the solution you mention in your message,
@sohil-chhabra, I think),
- or even better: that Superset can directly stylize the entities displayed by
the MVT tiles... A bit like GeoLens (geolens-io/geolens) or GeoLibre, or other
more specialized tools.

I have cartographic visualization requirements in my work that cannot currently
be met with Superset. I don’t know if there are many of us in that case. I use
a panel of tools (Martin, Maputnik, web portal composed in Typscript with
react-map-gl and other libraries) to create the desired visualizations, which I
then encapsulate into an iframe in a Superset dashboard. If there is a way to
make the visualization process more direct with Superset, many of my
collaborators will be very happy.

Among the general (and open source) BI tools, Superset offers probably the
greatest possibilities for monitoring spatial data. It’s up to the committers
to see if Superset should take this specialization a step further.
