GitHub user sfirke added a comment to the discussion: Feature request: paginated, free-form reports
Hi @erickweon! > Would a block-based report editor supporting formatted text, query values, > tables, and paginated PDF export meet an initial use case? Yes, this would on its own be useful! I think the free-form positioning is something to avoid at first, I chose my words poorly. The current Superset dashboard system of blocks provides a useful framework and constraint, so people aren't fussing with little pixels. I think this is a good project for you to take on in a course. It's a greenfield project where you could build a lot quickly. If this was going to get merged into base Superset, we would need a lot of discussion and code review to ensure everyone agrees on the details and implementation. But since you are doing it as an extension, you can make unilateral decisions, and then hopefully if it works out well and people want to make it a part of base Superset, they can tinker then. One thing I'm not sure about: is this more like a dashboard that people can browse to, or a report that gets emailed out on a schedule? I think the latter is the goal - but maybe there's a way to visit it, the way that you can click through an emailed dashboard to the living thing. Re: #39965, that feels quite different to me, with the one piece of overlap being their section on "Table Visualization Behavior" - in both cases, a table needs different considerations, because it can't be paged through, should maybe be HTML formatted, etc. Probably the same code could be reused across these two. But at any rate, that SIP does not have work going on it, so I wouldn't worry about it beyond keeping an eye on it. What is your timeframe for working on this?
