In summary, the dataset owner can update contributor metadata for a specific dataset. The system uses the provided email as the unique identifier to match an existing user account. If no matching user exists, it creates an inactive placeholder account and links it to the contributor record. The email field can also be optional. If no email is provided, the contributor remains plain-text, dataset-local metadata and is not linked to any user account. - Dataset contributor metadata is not shared globally. - User identity is shared globally through email.
