Sergiu Dumitriu commented on XWIKI-2096:
----------------------------------------
It is not bad to override templates using object properties, but I think it is
too much an effort to edit the class just for overriding another template. That
way, the XWikiSkin class has different structure on different instances of
XWiki. I'd say it's easier to upload an attachment than to go find the class,
edit it, add the new field, customize it, go back to the skin object, edit it,
save it.
I'm just offering another alternative for this.
> Allow skin document attachments to override/provide templates

> It is possible for skin documents to provide files as attachments, but it is
> not possible to do that for parsed velocity templates, thus causing someone
> that wants to override menuedit.vm, for example, either to add a new field to
> the XWikiSkins class (which is sooo bad), or to edit the file on disk (which
> is not always possible).
