I just ran my entire corpus of eco-release-metadata through pandoc. I did it a
long time ago (years), but the corpus is bigger now so should be a more
reliable test.
Bad news!
It generated three errors.
Good news!
They are all on the same problem.

A problem that I'm pretty embarrassed about it because it should be obvious.
We need to convert \ to \\.
