@eolivelli, @hanm: Agree that the patch is a bit difficult to digest. It would be great to have another set of eyes, but it takes a substantial amount of effort. On the other hand, it would be better to merge it and deal with the potential consequences of something we would have missed than to have the patch linger for too long. I would merge it into `master`, but I understand that @li4wang would also like it in `branch-3.7`, which is a tad more risky. What do you think?
