Noticing more and more problems with pre-compilation not behaving as expected
in certain environments (for example, 32-bit dependencies on a 64-bit system) -
we're re-working this in 1.5.0, but it'd be handy to be able to disable the
plugin as a workaround for these issues in the mean time.
