He definitely disappeared. But first week sales were not really that
strong. People's music preferences are more diversified now. No doubt
that a little more promo from him would have helped - especially a
tour. But I think the album was going to fall off the charts
regardless. If Prince had arguments with Universal regarding
promotion of the album after it was released, it would be very stupid
- because you would think that they would have figured things out and
agreed on certain terms before hand!!? And you would have to fault
both Universal and Prince for not working it out earlier.

The one thing that would have really helped Prince was an American
Idol performance. Double edged sword - and I'm glad he didnt do it.
But numbers dont lie.

Shakira's album was out 18 weeks before her appearance. Her album was
basically dying at 10,911 sold the week before. After she appeared,
she sold 81,053. Thats unbelievable for a pop album in 2006 thats
over 4 months old. 636% increase.
Stevie Wonder - week before 2,900. Week after 5,500. 90% increase.
Queen - week before 6,000. Week after 14,000. 133% increase.
Barry Manilow - week before 32,000. Week after 78,000. 144% increase.

So instead he decided to let them use his songs to perform? "Kiss"
was sung this past week - but I dont think that will help much.

There isnt a really big hit song from 3121 either. "Black Sweat" is
good, but it's not a big pop single.
