I for one have dedicated too much time, and money to just say to hell with
it when stuff like this happens. The hardcore fans will be there through the
good and the bad decisions Prince makes in his career. The $25 dollar
lifetime thing was destined to crash & burn from a business perspective.
Hopefully when the new site opens, it'll go back to the $100 membership
times when dowloads were aplenty AND we received first dibs at concert
tickets and other misc perks. I missed out when the celly's went down, was
too young for the Exodus and Emancipation era and have yet to go to a "real"
afterparty (Club Whack don't count). Been a fan since I was 7 and don't
intend on stopping now.
I'll see you at 3121club.com

I'm with ya on this one.
2004 was a slammin' year with all the hype attached. But, this is a good
way to weed out the ones who were just there for the joy ride. Even when
the club was $100 a year, you knew only the hardcore fans would be crazy
enough to join and keep the club alive.
Sometimes you just need to clean house and start over. However when Prince
cleans house, he REALLY CLEANS, even if he is throwing out the good with
the bad.
Not like we haven't been here before and we won't go there again. And
Again, And Again...............
But it's Prince, so you either go along for the ride or get off the bus.
Through it all, I'll take the ride.
Peace and wonderful observation.

Even I, a person with pretty much no entreprenurial sense whatsoever, knew
that the $25 membership was a bad long-term business move. Sadly, those new
to the Prince way of thinking probably believed that "lifetime" meant THEIR
lifetime, not the lifetime of his attentian span.
I do think if he offered more than just concert tickets, overpriced
merchandise and token bits and pieces of music and video hardcore fans
could have kept the site alive and profitable for him.
Oh well. I will definately miss the access to tickets, but I am hopeful at
least that will come back. And maybe if he charges a reasonable yearly fee
all of us tried and true fans will still have that access without the
clutter of those who arrived during Musicology and went just as fast.
I also have to say, this is so Prince: Win awards and recognition, then, in
essence, say "<Yawn>, what's next?"
