I think when you listen to something over and over again, It's not any
better than the first time around. You just warm up to it because you
become accustomed to listening to it.

Imo, a great song is something that moves you on your first listen. If I
have to listen to over and over again and then decide how i feel about it,
then the song isn't doing it's job.

I've listened to it about 3 times already and I'm not feeling it.

It's often hard to digest a new Prince album because you know what he's
capable of and we get these half-baked efforts in 3121 and PE.

<Moderator: there are exceptions "Around The World In A Day" I didn't get
that album right away. Now its one of my favorites. Especially after I
started learning more about music. Then I started to really understand it
as a whole -Derek>

because something doesn't move you on
first listen doesn't mean that at another time you can't appreciate its
genius. Some of my favorites totally missed me on first listen. (In fact,
I'm already liking Mr. Goodnight :)) Then of course, there are others
(like the entire RBC album) that continue to miss me completely.

I think the same sort of thing can be said for books, movies and music by
other artists. Sometimes, you just have to be ready for something to move
you.

appreciate it. A lot of the tracks translated better live then on the
album. I guess there is a time and place for everything -Derek>

I agree, too. It boggles the mind how he keeps shooting himself in the
foot like this. 3121 was wonderful. Musicology was a good album too, both
critically acclaimed. Now, after all these exclusive (read: expensive)
shows and a lot of wonderful press, this album arrives to mediocre reviews
(in the press) at best.

I'll buy it too, maniac that I am. Hopefully one or two of the songs have
the potential to grow on me. Still, sometimes, don't you wonder what this
pretty little man is thinking?

noticed that term being used a lot on Prince fans lately. It's not very
good, but it will grow on me. That is pretty sad that anything has to grow
on anyone. Its like maybe if I less to it enough I will brainwash myself
into liking it... -Derek>

Well Derek,,, Sadly I must say I agree with you. I heard it and will buy it
when it comes out but probably won't put it back in cd player anytime soon. And
that sucks because I LOVED 3121 and thought I had the "old" Prince back.
