Chris said "I've just had a horrible recollection of some
Eastern European pipers I came across at the Sackpfiefen in Schwaben
festival. These pipers obtained vibrato not from their fingers but by
jiggling their whole bodies up and down! Now, who does that remind you
of.......? "

That sounds like Szokolay Balasz - an amazing piper, and what a vibrato
technique. There's a younger guy I met in Budapest last year, Bese Botond, who
although he isn't into the body-vibrato thing is a very fine player too. He has
a way of playing close-fingered on an open chanter, popping off of A, B and C#
to 'accompany himself'. Sounds mindblowing... I'm trying to emulate him on the
Scottish smallpipes, but it's going to take some thinking.
