Margaret Watchorn recently wrote: Jack Dodd is my father. Now aged 84, he doesn't play the banjo much, and the pipes even less, but occasionally a new tune comes into his head (though he's never mastered the art of writing the dots). He still has an incredible memory for all kinds of music that he heard in his youth! I'm happy to share more information about him and his tunes, on or off the list.
Just for the record Margaret is an excellent tune-maker too and published thirty of her own tunes as far back as 1984 in a wee publication called "Dishalagie" (this means coltsfoot in north Northumberland). One of these tunes "The Idle Bairn" (idle meaning mischievous here) was recorded by Joe Hutton on the "Harthope Burn" album. So if you get in touch to ask about her dad's stuff you'd do well to ask also about hers!
