The season before last Albion were promoted from the Championship, outplaying teams with (pains me to say it) very neat, passing football. They were a way better footballing side than any team in the Championship and tried to play exactly the same the following season in the Premiership. Only thing was they came up against teams doing the same as them, only better. They got relegated.
I reckon its smart thinking to have narrowed the pitch. While we may have been able to stretch teams across our wide pitch in the Championship last year, this year we're going to come up against far better teams who would actually use that extra space to do to us what we did to teams last year. Horses for courses and all that. ________________________________ From: nswolves@googlegroups.com [mailto:nswol...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Steven Millward Sent: Tuesday, 29 September 2009 2:22 PM To: nswolves@googlegroups.com Subject: [NSWolves] Re: This weekend It was an odd decision, especially given we are aiming to be the youngest, fittest side in the league. One would think that we'd want the big pitch to make other teams run around and tire more easily? Perhaps it wasd more about being able to press teams more easily. I assume you had no complaints about Mick's own width during those magical hours you spent with him in Perth? Is that why you call him "Thick Mick"? It's making my eyes water just thinking about it 2009/9/29 Marcus Chantry <marcus.chan...@macquarie.com<mailto:marcus.chan...@macquarie.com>> I think the whole width debate is quite interesting. If Thick Mick ever intended to play with 2 wingers to create true width, why did he choose to reduce the width of the Molineux pitch to the minimum allowed under premier league rules? I think Halford or Castillo can provide the grit in midfield that would allow Milijas the freedom to be the creative force. Might come down to the last game to see if we can stay up. I'm still hopeful but I don't expect early safety or relegation. I reckon a draw on the weekend is a likely outcome. Milijas has been quite lazy from all the reports I read and we know what Mick thinks of that. However, a touch of class that scores the winner is worth 90 minutes of running around. I think with Milijas in we are also lightweight in midfield, especially if we want to keep some width. We haven't seen true width yet with both Jarvis and Kightly in the side. If we can have those two then I'd be for keeping both Henry and Castillo in. There's a lot of debate over 442 vs 451 on Mol Mix. 442 is probably right for us but we lack a true trequartista. Keogh is the closest we've got but he can't seem to score. Can anyone else fill that position? Is it Doyle? 2009/9/29 Marcus Chantry <marcus.chan...@macquarie.com<mailto:marcus.chan...@macquarie.com>> So Pompey this weekend... they don't a single point this season; they have only scored 3 goals in 7 matches; they have conceded 13 goals in 7 matches; Are we going to add to their woes or are we going to join them in the bottom 3 and kick-start their season? Also, if Fulham & West Ham win their games in hand then we are in the bottom 3 anyway. The information contained in this email is confidential.
