My first games going to watch Wolves were in the old 4th division (my old man's a Liverpool fan so I didn't inherit them through a family member who took me as a kid) and I have to say, those were some of my best times watching Wolves. Major disappointment watching us lose to Aldershot in the play offs, but from that point we had a few great years where we tore teams apart and Steve Bull was scoring for fun. Going to grounds where the away fans out numbered the home, paying blokes on the turnstiles a backhander to let us in and having a right laugh with my mates as we secured successive promotions were my 'halcyon days'. Our extended stay in what is now the Championship became a bit of a grind after a while and the expectation that came with Sir Jack's investment changed the whole atmosphere. Me and my mates had many conversations during that period about the merits of getting relegated - getting to go to a few different grounds again, losing some of the annoying home 'fans' and lowering people's expectations - but ultimately concluded that while it would be refreshing to go to few different grounds again the atmosphere would never return to that carefree 'backs to the wall' one that came with coming within touching distance of going under and the expectation levels would probably be even greater as we played teams like Bury and Rochdale in our shiny new stadium rather than the 2 sided relic of the pre-Hayward days.
