make sure all entries of this system have been deleted from wins, dns, and
server manager. Then try re-adding it to the network.

Subject: RE: Very Strange DHCP Issue
I replaced the cables and the NIC, and now Im able to set the IP manually
and ping all the computers on the LAN by IP address as well as by name.
What I cannot do, however, is join the network. (I dropped it out before
uninstalling the NIC, just to be sure the user account wasnt the problem).
Now all I get is an error message saying the domain isnt available or
invalid...but I can ping every system on the domain....

Subject: RE: Very Strange DHCP Issue
I do believe this is the IP address that windows gives itself by default
when 1).It cannot find or contact DHCP server to get this IP information, or
2).IP settings are not set manually. Try setting them manually to see if the
problem is with your nic. If this works try uninstalling the NIC, then
re-install it using the latest drivers. I have had this happen before, but
first thing you should do is check the cable to make sure it is not the
problem. hope this helps.
