I may be misunderstanding but it seems like all he needs is the AD
equivalent of the NT4 Account Disabled check box.

You are not completely right. There is a login authentication everytime you
access a share
over the network. you can test this  by disabling the account while you are
logged on.
After replication is completed you will not be able to connect to the share
any longer,
this implies that authentication failed
