The more I have done the more I have missed. Every time I catch
something, I did about 15 of them in a lab before trying anything real
life. That helped out a ton. The latest find to watch out for. Make sure
you have pretty much blank DNS on the NT4 machine. If you have bad dns
suffix it will append to the new server name and ruin DDNS names.
Requiring you to Dcpromo the server out and back in.

good advise. Having hit a few bumps in the road myself, i would highly
recommend having done your due-diligence and have an outside firm review
your thought process. require that they have a project and client list
relevant to windows 2000 implementations. Just the books won't cut it.

Check out Compaq Consulting. I think the specific team is applied MS
technologies. As i recall, they helped MS with their internal rollout.

sp3 wes?

We had some initial issues that were design related which were our own
fault. We used an outside consulting firm to verify our plan. First
mistake.

SP3 fixed some issues that we saw and were big problems, but not
something you should see at the start of an implementation.

Most problems I would have to say are the result of poor planning. I am
not a big fan of outside consultants they tend to know their book
learning, but do not have the grasp of a long term support strategy.
Sorry if we have some of those consultants here, but our track record
with them has not been good.

My suggestion would be to you is back off, get the training, plan, test,
plan some more, then plan a little more. If you do decide to go with
outside consultants get with MS Consulting Services. They are the only
ones I have seen that seem to know their stuff. Much as it pains me to
say so. Do not assume that they are the same sort of guys that do the PS
Support. They are not.

Don't forget to plan.

Yep, migration is going very smoothly, just migration another 10% of the
company over the weekend.

Just curious, has anyone out there been successful with active directory
? We tried in once and it failed and we had to revert back, this time we
had Lucent here and it has failed again even with all the planning.
