Lmhosts file? Seriously, that's about the only thing that I could think of.
And that may not even work the way you are wanting it to. The basic
question is, why don't you just give the new PC the same name? Does it
"have to" have a different name? If not, you will make things a whole lot
easier on yourself by giving it the same name as the old one. Don't play
with Static mappings in WINS with Windows based computers. You're opening a
can of worms there, my friend, that you don't really want to open.

Subject: NetBIOS naming problem...

            Hi folks !

We have a PC that is named "FS" and it is going to be replaced
for a newer one called "FS1".

We need that the old mapping keep working with the old name...
For example: a share called \\fs\share keeps working before we change the
server name... how should I proceed ???

I've tried to create a static mapping at wins server but it
didn't work properly when we try to map through windows explorer...

            Any sugestions ???

            Regards

            Laercio Santos Jr
