And if your users don't have Server or Advanced Server installed, they can't
promote them to a BDC.

You have to be a domain admin which is in the local administrators group
to run dcpromo succesfully. You do not make your users admins right?

Because I don't want them to mistakenly upgrade their computer to a DC.

Why do you want to prevent them?

member servers. Does anyone know how I can prevent my users from running
DCPROMO on there windows 2000 servers?

Thanks

Our organization has an NT4 domain with several Windows 2000 member
servers
and all new workstations will be Windows 2000 as we add them. We've
recently realized that we need a BDC at a remote location. We plan on
going
AD at some point, but haven't even begun looking into migration issues.
My
question (probably a simple one) is whether I can configure a Windows
2000
Server as a BDC in a NT4 domain. I'm assuming the answer is no, but
hoping
that somebody is able to say "yes" and explain how to accomplish this.
If I
can avoid it, I would prefer to allow attrition to handle a great deal
of my
95/NT upgrades to 2000 rather than perform OS upgrades.

Thanks in advance
