We had a similar issue when we upgraded from Windows 3.1 to NT4, in that
case we left one PC with 3.1 on it dedicated to that application.

We've also got an ancient Mac running somewhere in a similar situation.

If you MUST have W2K on those boxes and the app isn't used all that often
you could dual boot.

I know we had a huge argument about it, and the reason they stop the
Window 2000 support is because the vendor's company got bought by a
competitor and now they are trying to face out this application.

Ask the software vendor how the hell they expect to sell software that's
incompatible with Win2k. Then get a refund for your maintenance
agreement,
and start shopping for a new application.

This may sound a bit extreme, but to me it sounds like the vendor has
given
up on the product.

Subject: Software security dongle.

My company uses a commercial software product that employs a parallel
security dongle, we use this product in three PCs running windows NT
4.0,
the problem is that we are upgrading to Windows 2000 and the security
dongle
does not work with windows 2000, I have contacted the software vendor
and
they do not have any plans to release a 2000 driver for this security
dongle. I read somewhere that there might be a way to hack the registry
in
windows 2000 and disable media sense and this will allow us to install
the
software.

Any advice is appreciated.
