Do the printers have long names (longer than 8 characters)? We ran into
this issue, where our printers had names longer than 8 characters, and they
could not be seen by 9x clients when they connected to the print server in
the manner you described. We came down to 2 choices - either make the
printer names shorter, or have the 9x clients simply type in the path when
adding the printer. This is what we did. Believe me, it will work. You
just have to give them the full path when adding the printer instead of
letting them browse for it.

Thanks,

James

Subject: Printer not seen for win9x client

I've recently experienced this weird problem that I couldn't have an
explanation about:

It's a win2k native mode with current SP. Most win2k pro as clients,
but a few win9x clients. One w2k server is configured as print server
and shares multiple printers. The problem is that out of 7 printers,
win9x clients only see a couple of the shared printer when you point
them to \\servername\. For what ever reason, they will not see any
other printers. I've deleted and recreated the other printers many
times. I've compared all aspects of the permissions, WINS, etc. between
the printers that they do see, but can't find the discrepancy.

Has any one experienced the same symptom?

Thanks,

Andrew,
