If your C drive was NTFS, you won't see a file allocation table, and DOS

Is there anything one can do when your file allocation table is bad? I
have
a laptop that was having issues Win2k SP2, and now it won't boot, nor
repair. And when I try to boot to dos and save the files on it I get.

File Allocation table bad, drive C
