I am going through the same process and found the following free/inexpensive
servers:
ProArGoSoft - http://www.argosoft.com/applications/mailserver/ - $0
Mercury Mail - http://www.pmail.com/index.cfm - $0
NU-Mail - http://www.aristoline.co.uk/ - $50 - $600
EServ - http://www.eserv.ru/eserv/ - $150
VPop3 - http://www.pscs.co.uk/products/vpop3/index.html - $315
MDaemon - http://www.mdaemon.com/ - $490 Std/$660
Mail Essentials - http://www.gfifax.com/me/index.html - $895

I didn't investigate multiple domains fully but I know off the top of my
head that MDaemon and Mercury Mail both support them.
Calendaring I don't know.

I have chosen to go with Mercury Mail, and if that doesn't work out then
it'll be VPop3.

You should at least *look* at Mail Essentials' feature list - we use it as a
front-end to MDaemon to handle content-checking and virus-scanning, although
ME has its own mail server built in to it, we were already using MDaemon so
it made no sense to switch.
