Hi all, Here's the scenario. We have an Active Directory and an NT 4 domain with a complete trust. The AD is in Native mode already (Don't ask, this is a govn't migration). We have users logging into AD but all home drives and login scripts map drives to the NT 4 domain servers. Some of the NT 4 servers are BDC's, some are just file/print servers. All workstations are Windows XP. All workstations receive DHCP from the NT 4 servers. DCHP DNS is pointing to the AD and WINS is pointing to NT 4 servers. All servers themselves are pointing to the NT 4 domain DNS and WINS servers.
When a user logs into the network, they are authenticated to AD and the logon script runs from the sysvol share. All is good until a user opens up a document on their network drive. If they keep it open for any amount of time past 15 mins or so, Word will just hang when saving or closing. This happens with all Office apps. If they save it to their C: drive, it works fine. Anyone have any advice on where to start? I know it's totally a network layer issue but I'm just wondering which one to try first. I have the following ideas - change the WINS and DNS settings on the NT 4 servers, try adding LMHOSTS files... etc. Also noted, we have a 2000 server in the NT 4 domain, using the AD DNS and WINS settings and it works just fine. We also have one 2000 server in the AD and it works just fine as well. I'm hoping we can just change the settings on the NT 4 servers and all will be ok.
