According to Q266729 the BDC should contact the PDC. However - i got suspicious because the PDC is on the other side of a WAN connection (US) and lots of BDCs are much quicker to respond. I wonder if you can set the trusted DC manually so there is no need to go across the WAN?

I think it's the first one to respond, that's how it appears in our environment.
You may need to reset the secure channel on the resource domain DC, I tend to use Dommon.exe from the NT ResKit as we are still NT4 here.  In one case I had to restart the Netlogon service but normally resetting the secure channel fixes things.

Subject: Secure Channel NT domain

hy,
i try to get some basic understanding what happens in a resource/accounts NT4 domain if an user trys to logon to his workstation. Afaik the workstation authenticates to its resource domain controller which passes the authentication credentials to an account domain dc. Having some problems with this i ran NLTEST /DCTRUST:accountsdomain which came up with the PDC of the accountdomain. Now i wonder what causes a DC to be the trusted DC ? What happens if this DC get offline ? Thanks
