it's the real-time file protection with Norton Anti-Virus

I'd do some research on www.symantec.com - what happens if you disable
anti-virus, does the utilisation decrease ?

nb maybe stop Internet Mail Connector whilst u try this !

Actually its NAV for Exchange 2.5. rtvscan.exe isn't even in the list.
What does that do?

what version of NAV ? guessing 7.50

you should look at 7.51 or above, check the symantec website but there
was
a problem with high processor utilisation in situations with large
number
of files or databases.

what's the processor utilisation of rtvscan.exe ?

Has anyone ever seen high processor utilization on an Exchange Server
even though its not reporting any services running high? I have a dual
933 with 2gigs of RAM and about 500-600 clients hitting it. Running
EX2000 and Win2k ADV. Processor is consistently at like 50-60% percent
even in the middle of the night. There aren't any backups or anything
particular running during this just NAV for Exchange.
