Thank you very much I agree w/ assigning to Computers for some apps but as with most companies we have apps that are not needed by everyone just certain Groups/Departments
I was under the assumption that only the piece you use is installed when assigning an app to a user. Example: I assign Office 2000 user runs Word it only installs enough of Office to get word working. Next I run Excel it uses what was already installed but only install the rest for Excel. Question: If I Specify an MST fro Office 2000 will it install the Whole thing when Word is used? The difference is that when you assign an application to a user, it only gets installed on first use. When you publish, they have to manually choose to install the application from add/remove programs. Depends on whether you want to force them to have it installed. I would also look at assigning to computers, as assigning/publishing to users ONLY installs the app for that one user. Anyone else logging into the computer will not be able to use the app. James Winzenz, MCSE, A+ Associate Systems Administrator Peregrine Systems, Inc. -----Original Message----- From: Morgan, Joshua [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, March 14, 2002 10:05 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: User Publish vs. User Assigned Just so I do this right When you assign to a user the app is not installed until the user clicks on the ICON When you publish to a user the app is not installed until they go to add new Software but unlike Assigning to the user the whole app or whatever you specified in the MST is installed Joshua Morgan PROFITLAB Network Engineer [EMAIL PROTECTED] "One is glad to be of service " --Robin Williams (Bicentennial Man)-- ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to %%email.unsub%% ------ You are subscribed as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to %%email.unsub%% ------ You are subscribed as [email protected] Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
