Yes that's how I do it I typically create a .vbs File for each Qxxxx or update and I add them to the machine startupscripts section of my GPO
On XP the OS updates are typically found here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates I'm looking for the others Joshua Morgan PH: (864) 250-1350 Ext 133 [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.profit-lab.com http://ncontrol.info -----Original Message----- From: Alexander Kha Do [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2002 11:38 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: How to apply Microsoft hot fix using group policy I assume you use the wshshell.regread method. I guess I could consider deploying WSH to my 9x clients and use cscript to get the job done. Out of curiosity which keys do you read for OS hotfixes and IE patches? -----Original Message----- From: Morgan, Joshua [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2002 8:24 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: How to apply Microsoft hot fix using group policy We do not have any Windows 9x Clients sorry And Yes I do this for IE patches as well I use VB Scripting to get this done... I'm not so concerned about OS patches as I am for IE55SP2 patches. Either way, what tyoe of scripting tools do you use to get the job done? -Alex -----Original Message----- From: Morgan, Joshua [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, April 30, 2002 6:48 AM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: RE: How to apply Microsoft hot fix using group policy >From what I've seen and done... Each Microsoft Hot fix adds a specific reg. entry We run a script that runs at the start of each machine parses through the registry looks for the key and if it does not exist it applies the hot fix. I have also heard of people creating a MSI Packages using WISE or something like that Joshua Morgan PH: (864) 250-1350 Ext 133 [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.profit-lab.com http://ncontrol.info -----Original Message----- From: Hong [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, April 29, 2002 8:29 PM To: NT 2000 Discussions Subject: How to apply Microsoft hot fix using group policy All of my users are W2K Pro. I'd like to apply all Microsoft security hot fixes and patches to all workstations. How would I set up Group Policy to send these fixes to these computers without going to each one and apply them manually?
