Newer Intel NICs won't autodetect correctly in Win2k, even though the
standard Intel NIC driver included in Win2k will work with them. Same
goes for newer 3coms. And don't get me started with laptop NICs...
I still think the best option is using a Group Policy startup script
that calls
NET USER administrator <passwd>
to set the local admin password. Then secure that script from prying
eyes, and make sure it doesn't run against servers.

You COULD get around that by using a NIC that is already listed in the
W2K
driver set. There are just a couple, I'm pretty sure... <G> Install it
AND your fly-by-night NIC to pull the needed driver off your network.
Just keeping one or two on hand is a good idea.
