What do they think? Well, there are some issues with Dfs that you should be aware of: 1. Issues with Offline files (search knowledge base) 2. You do not have access to security tab in explorer (setting filepermission etc) 3. When you right click and select properties in explorer (to count folders/see size etc) it is very slow Still I find Dfs excelent for shares that contain programs (program run from network) and program packages (if you deploy software through GPO you cannot change the source of installation after you have made it available, you will have to remove and add package....) NTFRS also have som issues, most of them were fixed in SP2 but still. NTFRS sometimes have problem with replicating files. You will notice that there may be a few files missing: that are not replicated - and this is not because of the filter defined i AD for that replica. You will have to check often to be sure. There is no way to trigger replication to check if NTFRS areas are 100% consistent. I often prefer robocopy because it is 100%, it never fails to replicate any files. Usually when I design and implement windows 2000 network, I start with NTFRS and then sometimes end up with robocopy. The complications of ntfrs not replicating all files are quite huge. E.g some files maybe be missing when a client try to install an application: result the application fail or maybe the client hang...And also with NTFRS you always have the possibility that a low life it person starts a defrag or virus scan that then again trigger a full replication...... Just wanted to share some experience....... What do they think? I use DFS mostly for convenience so that I could go to once share to view all the network drives.
